President announced “Indigenous Languages Development Act” on June 14th, 2017, and it means indigenous languages step forwards to a new era formally. In order to continue promoting indigenous language learning and transferring, Council of Indigenous Peoples officially launch the activity of collecting indigenous language teaching videos “This is how it is spoken” on July 20th, 2017. Five prizes of NT$20,000 each provided to appeal indigenous people participate in promoting and transferring indigenous languages with the anticipation of presenting uniqueness and diversity of indigenous languages to the public through creative teaching videos. Meanwhile, many famous indigenous singers including Lo Mei-Ling, Lu Hsueh-Jui, Yi Fen and Boxing (band name) as well as well-known baseball player Lin Chih-Sheng and actor Lin Ching-Tai clergyman are invited to the activity, and call on indigenous people to learn indigenous languages together.

The population of indigenous people in Taiwan is around 550,000 people. Each tribe has its own culture, language, custom and social structure; the diverse tribe features have accumulated rich cultural assets in history of Taiwan. According to the research, the most abundant Austronesian languages characteristics and grammar kept well in Taiwan and it is recognized as the mutual place of origin for Austronesian languages. In consideration of this, how to preserve and transfer the cultural treasure in Taiwan is an important task that all the people in the nation need to face together.

According to the Council, it is anticipated that all the public has fun in learning indigenous languages and through by the activity of collecting indigenous language teaching videos and understand the diversity, fun and wisdom of indigenous languages makes indigenous people feel confident and proud of the language and cultural features that they owns.
