To provide accessible welfare resource services and establish localized welfare-supporting system, the Council of Indigenous Peoples has subsidized local governments and set up the Family Service Center with non-governmental organizations since 2002. Based on the culture of “family-centered, tribal-based and requirements for moving to cities”, the Council also subsidized Taoyuan City Government and entrusted Taiwan World Vision for execution in 2017, together built up the Indigenous Peoples Family Service Center of Taoyuan City, creating the strong social safety net with cooperation and partnership.
The opening ceremony was held on Friday 2:00 pm, February 10th, 2017, at the Indigenous Peoples Family Center of Daxi District, Taoyuan City. Icyang Parod, chairman of Council of Indigenous Peoples and Cheng Wentsan, mayor of Taoyuan City both joined the ceremony. The opening hours will be from 8 am to 5 pm from Monday to Friday, providing professional service for individual family case management, group work and community work, and assist local people with warm and proper solutions, thus to enhance social capitals of urban indigenous people with happiness, and strengthen the connection between indigenous people in the city and rural side.
The Chairman, Icyang Parod, pointed out that so far 58 Family Centers are approved to be built, and New Taipei City, Taichung City, Kaohsiung City, Keelung City and Miaoli County all have the urban family centers set, with 202 indigenous people hired. In the future, they will focus on indigenous people social safety and occupation professionals, improving social workers’ ability, enhancing the social occupation regulations and welfare service to take a big step further.
