Scale up the Guided-reading Scheme, Never Interrupt the Learning of Tribal Schoolchildren

The Remote Guided-reading Scheme for Tribal Schoolchildren carried out by the Council of Indigenous People promoted has been highly acclaimed and it’s expected to scale up in 2017. It’s estimated that 12 tribal book kiosks and primary schools will be involved in the Scheme, there are Swashake Tribe of Taian Village in Miaoli County, Lalauya Tribe of Alishan Village in Chiayi County, Hsinlaiyi Tribe of Laiyi Village in Pingtung County, Chiayi Tribe of Machia Village, Piuma Tribe in Taiwu Village, Shimen Tribe in Mudan Village, Hsincheng Tribe of Hsincheng Village in Hualien County, Kuofu Tribe of Hualien City, Ginaluan Tribe of Fenglin Township, Gufeng Primary School in Chuohsi Village, Hatsuka Tribe of Beinan Township in Taitung County and Masaoki Tribe of Chinfeng Village respectively. The institutes of higher education engaging in the Scheme are raised to 5, namely, National Taipei University of Education, National Taichung University of Education, Yishou University, Hualien Donghua University and Taitung University. The interactions and guided-reading are conducted between premium college students from different places and tribal schoolchildren. The parents and schoolchildren participating in the Scheme are all looking forward to the Guided-reading Scheme of this year that provide them opportunities to make friends, learn and grow up with the senior students from all over the country.

The Council of Indigenous People expressed that the Tribal Schoolchildren’ Guided-reading Scheme has received considerable supports and encouragements since its inception of 2016, the Council therefore decided to scale up. With the convenience of network and technology,  university students in the urban were serving as online teachers of tribal schoolchildren to assist them in their solving academic problems via the real-time video devices and technologies. In addition, during two-hour video guided-reading time, the university students also play a role of life-guide teacher for tribal schoolchildren. The university students also learn something when they are ready for understanding the learning attitudes and listening to their worries of tribal schoolchildren. Apart from establishing heavy emotions between university students and tribal schoolchildren, they also have a deeper understanding each other on the life and cultures.

By promotion of the remote guided-reading mode, teaching design mechanism, curriculum educational tutoring as well as faculty training, more learning resources are available for tribal schoolchildren. Apart from learning assistance, the scheme of this year also includes University & Preliminary School Student Meeting and Wrap-up Presentation, the rich and diversified contents benefit both tribal schoolchildren and university students a lot. We are looking forward to more college students and tribal schoolchildren to participate in the Remote Guided-reading Scheme in the future.
