The president on August 1st has promised to review relevant laws and regulations before September 30 to return the identity and rights of Plains Aborigines. The Executive Yuan has originally planned to convene Plains Aborigines Ethnic Identity Laws and Regulations Review Conference (the notification is shown in the attachment) on September 28, which has to be postponed to October 7 due to Typhoon Maggie. Council of Indigenous Peoples has expressed that there is a preliminary scheme of reviewing laws and regulations, and the Executive Yuan will convene the conference at full speed.
The Council of Indigenous Peoples said that after the president has promised to review relevant laws and regulations on August 1st, they immediately collected the study reports, legislation expert opinions and other studies over the years to start the review. In the past two months, the council has also received the petitions and suggestions of Plains Aborigines from Office of the President and the Executive Yuan, and has put together with the data above to dispose.
The Council of Indigenous Peoples emphasized that the preliminary scheme of reviewing laws and regulations has been reported to government administration member Lin Wan-Yi and Dean Lin Chuan, who informed Mr. Lin to invite scholars and experts to have a meeting to negotiate, and instructed departments to prepare relevant budget resources. However, the meeting was delayed to be held on October 7 due to the typhoon.
Finally, the council expressed that the people of all walks of life has put forward various suggestions of identity affirmation, such as Identification of Plain Indigenous People, Identification of Ping Pu Indigenous People, and Identification of Plains Aborigines, which will all be deeply discussed in the conference held by Lin Wan-Yi and submitted to determine together with the resources check results from other departments.
