Showed by Discovery Channel Enters International Stage, Holding their Maiden Premiere in the Amis Tribe of Dulan, Taitung.

Council of Indigenous Peoples held their first-ever tribal premiere of at Neighborhood32 Café in Dulan tribe of Taitung at 7PM today, playing the part “Beliefs and Rituals” which youths from Dulan tribe had took part in its filming. Leading actor of the part Yuan Kai also took a presence and tossed a singing performance, demonstrating the traditional strength and beauty of the indigenous people.


Council of Indigenous Peoples had their debut collaboration with Discovery Channel over the
series, conveying the spirits and features of Taiwanese indigenous peoples through images. The three major subjects of the series start from “Beliefs and Rituals”, “Diets and Life” and “Architecture Craftsmanship”. They visited the tribes formed by clans dedicating to maintaining the tradition of their tribe, starting from the viewpoint of the three generations: elderlies, middle ages and the youth, with an objective to lead viewers to understand the diverse and rich perspectives of indigenous peoples.

Mr. Chen Kun-Sheng, leader of the Department of Education and Culture, said, “On the perspective of linguistics, the indigenous peoples in Taiwan are the essential root of Austronesian peoples, and are the one-of-a-kind marvelous treasure. The Council of Indigenous Peoples takes the first collaboration with Discovery, entering from three aspects of “Beliefs and Rituals”, “Diets and Life” and “Architecture Craftsmanship”. The part playing in Dulan tribe this time is the “Beliefs and Rituals” part, which fully displays Amis tribe’s spirits of respecting elderlies and emphasis on teams, featured swing rites in the Millet Ritual of Rukai tribe, and the ways of cross-cultural alliance with the Han people sticking to the rites by the aristocrats of the Paiwan tribe. Through the airing of this show, we wish to make the public have a further comprehension and cherish the culture of Taiwanese indigenous peoples.”


Living wisdom and traditional culture of Taiwanese indigenous peoples have been passed down from generation to generation via Beliefs and Rites, Diets and Life and Architecture Craftsmanship. Albeit the fact that the process of modernization is undergoing, clans strive to maintain traditional culture. Discovery Channel’s
series records indigenous peoples’ culture on a new horizon, conveying the rich wisdom and spiritual philosophy via the tradition-persisting ritual trace. Discovery Channel’s part two will be broadcasted on 15th of June and part three on 22nd of June. Discovery HD WORLD channel and TLC channel will broadcast in July in high definition.
