The Ministry of Education announced the list of 2018 Presidential Education Awards on May 18, with 56 students winning the award, of which 10 were indigenous students. The Council presented a tablet for each indigenous student for their achievements. The Council sent staff to the tribes where award-winning student lived to congratulate them.
10 winners of "2018 Presidential Education Award" winners were indigenous students, including 3 high school students, i.e. Shih, Cheng-Chung (Nantou Shiukuang Senior High School), Lu, Hao-Hua (Stella Maris Ursuline High School), Li, Li-Tzu (National Hualien Special Education School), 5 students from middle high school, i.e. Lin, Chia-Ching (Taoyuan Chung Li Junior High School), Chao, Tzu-Hsin (Hsinchu Chiong Lin Junior High School), Yu, Hao-Ting (Hsinchu Guang Hua Junior High School), Shih, Ai-Chi (Nantou Shiukuang Senior High School), Hsu, Ming-Fei (Husi Junior High School), and 2 from elementary schools, i.e. Chiong, Yu-Chu (DongHe Elementary School), Chang, Shih-Yu (Te Kao Primary School). Icang Parod, Director of the Council, stated that the "2018 President Education Award" was an affirmation of the past efforts of these students, bringing personal honor and the pride to the tribe.
The Council had always attached great importance to the education of Indigenous Peoples. At present, it was participating in the revision of the Indigenous Peoples Education Act, promoting the indigenous key schools to handle the experimental education of the Indigenous Peoples, and expecting to implement the policy of President Tsai Ing-Wen to establish an indigenous education system. Through various educational work plans, combined with culture and language, in addition to being able to keep up with the learning patterns of today's society and not forgetting the fundamentals of ethnic culture, the indigenous students would inherit the indigenous cultures and find a stage to light themselves and the tribes up.
