In order to ensure the traffic safety in the Nanxi Tribe, Sanjian Village, Changbin Township, Taitung City, the Council of Indigenous Peoples subsidized the Taitung County Government to handle the construction of the Shuimuding Stream Bridge (formerly known as the Nanbei Creek Bridge). Wang, Ming-Hui, Deputy Director of the Council, Huang, Jen-Ting, County Magistrate of Taitung County, Speaker Rao, Ching-Ling of Taitung County, Pan, Shu-Fang, Village Head of Changbin Village, and Bai, Jin-Rong, Chairman of Representatives jointly attended the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the pre-commissioning on September 30, 2018. Wang, Ming-Hui said that the Shuimuding Stream Bridge was the only major road between the two tribes of Bunun and Ami in Nanxi. According to the test results of Taitung County Government in 2013, the pier foundation was exposed and the concrete cracks appeared, and the damaged concrete of the bridge concrete were exposed. The mining demolition and reconstruction method was reviewed. The Council subsidized the relevant planning and design and engineering costs, and the subsidy amounted to more than NT$ 65.72 million, which was completed and opened to traffic today (30th).
Wang also stated that the new Shuimuding Stream Bridge was a steel arch bridge with a length of 85m and a width of 7m. It could provide a safe way back home for the tribes and could be connected to the Nanxi Marketplace and attractions such as Shuimuding Stream and Bat Cave, so that the transport of the agricultural products could be realized and the tourism could be facilitated. Once the bridge was built, Nanxi could be provided with more opportunities. As for the second phase of the existing bridge demolition and subsequent liaison road improvement, the Council had completed the survey counseling, and would hold a review and evaluation meeting according to the planning process. If it is approved by the review and appraisal, it will be implemented in 2019.
