“Culture & Creation Museum of Ayoi People” Entered the Tokyo International Gift Show: Indigenous Aesthetic Marketing in the World

Japan’s largest professional gift show - “2018 Tokyo International Gift Show” would be grandly staged between September 4 and September 7, and the Council of Indigenous Peoples would once again participate in the show with the theme of “Ayoi” this year. Today (3), led by Mr. Liu Chien-Ju, the head of the Economic Development Department, a group of eight Taiwanese indigenous operators left for Tokyo, looking forward to bringing more Taiwanese indigenous high-quality agricultural specialties as well as cultural and creative designs into the Japanese market, and further integrating into Japanese daily life, which would be a decent option for gift exchanging.

In order to continue the excellent performance of last year’s show, the Council would further make efforts to deepen the relationship with Japanese. A total of 16 indigenous brands as well as 46 kinds of products would be exhibited. The items exhibited were very diverse, including popular Seediq traditional lozenge weaved bag, Taiyal woven cup bag, flower buds combined with pebbles and driftwood, bamboo-made table wind chime, glass beads jewelry, ornaments, cross embroidery and cloth embroidery household ornaments with the connotation of Paiwan cultures, , glass nightlight, metal crafting, the trend-dress integrating the totem of Indigenous Peoples and nature, the five-colored rice of the Ami People in Taiyuan Valley, Taitung, high-mountain tea of Tsou People from Alishan and Lishan, pineapple cake and rose salt made of traditional seasoning of Indigenous People -- maqaw (lindera glauca). Each piece of product not only displayed the unique culture and story of the aboriginal people, but also had tribal aesthetics and practicality.

“Ayoi” is a greeting from Yami (Dawu), which expressed “welcome” and “thank you”. This year, “Ayoi” went to the Tokyo International Gift Show in Japan for the second time. Each item was carefully selected, with special emphasis on the characteristics of the indigenous culture or local industry. They look forward to expanding the high quality products of Indigenous Peoples to Japanese market through this show, and once again draw the attention of Japanese market to the cultural and creative design of Taiwan Indigenous Peoples as well as create better sales volumes, so that the fascinating indigenous villages could take a place in the international markets.
