In order to improve the professional knowledge and skills of social workers for indigenous peoples, the Council of Indigenous Peoples conducted “On-the-job Education and Training for Social Workers for Indigenous Peoples in 2018” in Yilan between October 2 and October 4. 250 participants, including social workers of Indigenous Peoples Family Service Center as well as social workers for indigenous peoples dispatched to local governments attended the education and training. Icyang Parod, Chairman of the Council was present at the activity to encourage the social workers to take active part in the promotion of social safety policy initiated by the Executive Yuan to enhance social working knowledge, such as professional capacities, service ethnics, working skills and cultural sensitivities, so that they could become the first-line, high-quality, and competent social workers in Indigenous Peoples families and tribal communities.
The undertakers from municipal, county (city) government’s indigenous home care centers, supervisors or institution directors, and regional supervisors to participate in the training were also invited, expecting to smooth the social worker service network, promote mutual exchange and cooperation opportunities, and gather the professionals from enterprises, governments and universities, thereby jointly deepening the welfare service of the Indigenous Peoples to systematically establish knowledge of helping culture with perspectives of Indigenous Peoples and strengthening the effectiveness and well-being of indigenous social security services.
