Over the years, the Council of Indigenous Peoples, together with Tourism Bureau, Republic of China had set up Lantern Festival Show in indigenous area. This year (2019), it planned the “Austronesian indigenous lantern show areas with Pingtung County Government in Dapeng Bay. The subsidies and scale hit the records over the years. The design of lantern show areas were conceived of the Austronesian cultures and Indigenous Peoples in Taiwan. The design of main light was based on the “broussoneti ppeyrifer”, the origin of life blood of Austronesian people. By creating the tree of life, sun and ocean of the Austronesian in Taiwan, it created the field of world view and the attractive sound and light scenes. The friends over the country were welcome to Pingtung to enjoy the lantern show.
2019 Taiwan Lantern Festival held in Dapeng Bay between February 19 and March 3 is the 30th anniversary of Taiwan Lantern Festival. Different from the tradition, Pingtung County Government created a 15m-high tree of life giant lantern. By introducing scientific and technological elements into music, rhythm, light and shadow design and matching the five senses experience, the culture of 16 Indigenous Peoples and Austronesian People in Taiwan has been connected, presenting the cultural features and exquisite skills of the Indigenous Peoples, and showing the uniqueness of the main light area of the Indigenous Peoples. Calivat‧Gadu, Deputy Director of the Council stated that another highlight of the lantern festival was the invitation of Tapiwulan‧Kulele, Rafras·Matiling, An, Sheng-Hui, Aruwai Kaumaka and other local artists as well as Yosifu, wild artist traveling to Britain and Icyang, from Truku People to work together to present their talents and artworks. Furthermore, the cultural and creative markets, workshops, special food collections and wonderful performances would all internalize the lantern show appreciation into the memory of the experience in indigenous area.
“2019 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Pingtung – Austronesian Indigenous Area” was featured with multi-national cultures. The booths, fairs and performances would be wonderful during February 19 and March 3.
