The five-day “Focused and Practical Training on Policy and Decree of Indigenous Peoples in Special Examination for Civil Servants in 2018” was held by the Council of Indigenous Peoples on March 18 (Monday) at International Conference Hall, 1st Floor, Cultural and Educational Building, Nantou Campus, Civil Service Development Institute, Directorate-General Office of Personnel Administration, Executive Yuan. A total of 109 participants were present in the training for the enrollment in the 2018 Indigenous Peoples Special Examination and the 2018 Supplementary Trainers Distribution. The purpose of the training was to strengthen indigenous civil servants’ understanding to the current major policies for Indigenous Peoples. The courses included President’s policy on Indigenous Peoples, major issues on the policies of Indigenous Peoples as well as the brief introductions to the businesses of the Council. Director Icyang Parod presided over the training in person and encouraged the participants to work together to promote the Indigenous Peoples Policy and to serve their people.
Among the trainees, there were 64 females and 45 males with the maximum age of 54 and minimum age of 21. The trainees were all of indigenous nationalities, who were in the service in the central and local authorities and schools concerned with Indigenous Peoples’ affairs respectively. During the one-day visit, trainees learned from doing and would inherit the traditional wisdom of indigenous people.
In addition, most of the trainees were civil servants initiates. After the training, they would continue to go on for the basic training courses held by the National Academy of Civil Service for four weeks. After five consecutive weeks of training in basic core competencies of civil servants and knowledge about indigenous people, they would have a deeper understanding of their own sense of mission, and it was expected that the students could work together to bring a brighter future for their people.
